The UNESCO center in Regensburg has opened a new exhibition titled "German Heritage in Ukraine".
This exhibition, brought from Odessa, presents a significant collection of historical materials that illuminate the lives of German settlers in Ukraine since the early 19th century and their contributions to the development of Odessa and the surrounding region.
The exhibition is divided into three main sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical section was prepared by renowned Odessa researcher Alexander Surilov, while the artistic section features works by Odessa artist Tatyana Romanenko.
The exhibition also highlights the collaboration between Odessa and Regensburg, particularly in the context of the aid provided to Odessa since the beginning of the war.
The organization of this exhibition was made possible with the support of the Department of Culture and International Cooperation of Odessa and the Department of Culture of Regensburg.
Present at the exhibition opening were Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer, historians, scholars, and members of the Ukrainian community in Germany.
Gennady Trukhanov expressed gratitude for the support and assistance received, emphasizing the importance of these relationships.
"Soon it will be a thousand days of our struggle, and we are thankful for the support provided by European countries, particularly Regensburg to Odessa" - the mayor emphasized.
The mayor also noted that Odessa has become a home for many displaced persons, just as it was in history when various nationalities, including Germans, Jews, and Greeks, found a place here.
"German culture significantly influenced our agriculture and the development of infrastructure. We value this contribution and will continue to enhance our relationships" - he added.
Today, our friendship with Regensburg remains strong, and we believe in a bright future, capable of overcoming all difficulties together.
