Protest Action at the Pushkin Monument in Odessa

Today, April 13, Odessa activists conducted a unique action near the monument of the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin located by the city hall on Primorsky Boulevard: they adorned the monument with a noose and hung a sign reading «Looking for a bulldozer».

According to a video shared, some locals expressed outrage at this act.

«Are there no more issues?» – a man off-camera inquired.

The outcome of the confrontation remains unknown.

As stated by the head and founder of the youth organization «We Make You Nervous», Kateryna Musienko, the activists decided to «prepare the Pushkin monument for Easter» in such an unconventional manner.

«Today, the activists of «We Make You Nervous» prepared the Pushkin monument for Easter. This clearly signals that such a figure should celebrate this holiday in a museum. We adhere to Ukrainian Easter traditions – we remove all unnecessary items from our homes!», – she wrote on her Facebook.

She also asserted that «the history of occupation by the Moscow Empire and later the Soviet Union should be studied through textbooks and museum exhibitions».

«Colonial relics have no place on the streets of Ukrainian cities», – is her firm belief.

She thinks that the city council, having the authority to dismantle the «Moscow figure» monument, not only neglects its duties but even dares to renovate the monument's facade and plant flowerbeds around it.

«Let’s help Trukhanov find the machinery to demolish the marker of the «Russian World» in the center of Odessa! Take down the number from the «Looking for a bulldozer» sign and call the mayor to expedite the process!», – Musienko urged.
