Return of Fallen Ukrainian Soldiers: Latest Updates

Recently, Ukraine managed to bring back 909 bodies of soldiers who lost their lives in various conflicts.

This was reported by the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

Details on the repatriation of fallen soldiers in Ukraine

The remains were retrieved from the following regions:

  • Kurakhiv
  • Pokrovsk
  • Bakhmut
  • Vuhledar
  • Luhansk
  • Zaporizhzhia
  • Sumy
  • Kharkiv

Additionally, bodies were returned from morgues located in Russia.

The repatriation process was facilitated by the Coordination Headquarters, the Ministry of Reintegration, the Commissioner for Missing Persons, and the Joint Center at the Security Service of Ukraine, among others.

The remains will be transported to designated state institutions, where law enforcement and forensic experts will identify the deceased.

Subsequently, the bodies will be handed over to families for burial.

Previous Repatriation Efforts - What We Know

On March 28, 909 bodies of fallen Ukrainian soldiers were successfully returned.

On February 14, Ukraine brought back 757 bodies of soldiers who had fallen in various regions.

On January 24, 757 bodies were repatriated.

On December 20, 503 bodies of soldiers were returned.

On November 29, 502 bodies of military personnel were repatriated.

On November 8, 563 bodies of fallen soldiers were returned.

On October 18, 501 bodies were brought back.

On August 2, 250 fallen soldiers were repatriated from several regions including Luhansk and Bakhmut.

On June 14, the remains of 254 fallen defenders were returned for identification before being handed over to their families.
