In the northern part of the Odesa region, the rare wild almond has started to bloom actively. This plant is not only valuable in our area but also offers great benefits to humans as it is widely used in various industries.
This information was reported by the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District.
Properties of Wild Almond
Near the village of Levadivka in the Berezivka district, one of Ukraine's most beautiful plants — the wild almond — has bloomed. It is listed in the Red Book of Ukraine and is considered regionally rare. Typically, it can be found on slopes, in forest clearings, rocky gorges, and ravines. Almond oil is actively used in the cosmetics industry, particularly in the production of creams, shampoos, conditioners, and balms.
"Besides everything, almond plays an important soil protection role — its robust root system stabilizes the hilly slopes, safeguarding them from erosion. The fruits of the almond are rich in vitamins, minerals, proteins, and essential oils," — the report from the State Ecological Inspection of the Southwestern District states.
Ecologists add: all parts of the almond contain amygdalin — a substance that can release cyanide, which is toxic to humans. Therefore, caution is advised when dealing with this plant.
