The Ukrainian and Russian delegations are set to hold significant negotiations in Istanbul on Friday, May 16, with the involvement of representatives from the United States and Turkey.
This information was reported by the Turkish news agency Anadolu, citing sources in the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to Anadolu, the meeting will involve Turkey's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, while the U.S. delegation will be led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Officially, the parties have not confirmed this format for the negotiations on Friday.
For this meeting, initiated by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin, Russia has sent a low-level delegation headed by Putin's aide Vladimir Medinsky.
Given this, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio does not see opportunities for significant breakthroughs in negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul.
Meanwhile, on May 15, Volodymyr Zelensky approved the composition of the Ukrainian delegation for the negotiations in Istanbul, to be led by Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
