Water Supply Disruption in Odesa: Causes and Recovery Efforts

An emergency has occurred in Odesa due to a significant pipeline break, creating a large pool of water that hinders repair efforts.

Key points:

  • On June 12, a major pipeline broke in Odesa, resulting in a water accumulation.
  • A large portion of the city is without water, including the Tairova neighborhood and the Primorsky district.
  • Water supply has been suspended, and efforts are underway to pump out the water.
  • Estimated timelines for restoration of water service have been provided.

According to company representatives, the incident occurred in an area outside of residential development.

A significant lake has formed at the site of the break, complicating the work for repair crews who cannot access the damaged pipe due to the water's depth.

Currently, some pumping stations have halted operations to drain the water supply system, leaving the Primorsky district without water as well.

As of 4:00 PM, the following areas remain without water due to the emergency break:

  • Primorsky district of Odesa;
  • Kyiv district;
  • part of the Khadyzhbyey district (Cheremushky area);
  • the villages of Lymanka, Chervonyi Khutir, the Rainbow neighborhood, the Sauvignon area 1-5, and the Chornomorka neighborhood.

Regarding the restoration of water supply, Infoksvodokanal states that a precise timeline will be established after the excavation is completed. Tentatively, they hope to restore water by 8:00 AM on June 13.

The water supply company assures that repair teams will work through the night.
