The project for a Memorial dedicated to fallen soldiers is underway in Odessa.
A new meeting was held at the city hall with Mayor Gennady Trukhanov, focused on honoring the memory of the Heroes who sacrificed their lives.
During the meeting, the concept for the Memorial was presented, developed by architect David Pishchev in collaboration with the families of the fallen.
Previous meetings showcased models of gravestones.
One of the key issues discussed was the identification of land for the Memorial, which will facilitate precise planning. The mayor pointed out that since 2014, Odessa has faced a shortage of burial sites. To expand the cemetery, the city purchased land that was previously part of an airport.
Inna Popovska, the director of the legal department, clarified that this concerns a single property complex currently managed by the municipal enterprise «City Capital Construction». This area is considered a potential site for the Memorial.
The mayor instructed the land and cadastral bureau to conduct aerial photography of the site for further planning.
According to David Pishchev's proposal, the Memorial will include:
- standardized military burial sections;
- a universal building for farewell ceremonies;
- a park area for creative expressions of grief.
Work continues on analyzing proposals and seeking resources for project implementation. The Memorial will represent an important step in preserving the memory of those who gave their lives for Ukraine.
