35 Years of Friendship Between Odesa and Gdańsk

Next year, Odesa and Gdańsk will celebrate 35 years of their friendly relations. To mark this occasion, a festive concert and other events are planned in Gdańsk as part of the «Odesa Pays a Visit» project in the spring.
During the visit to the twin city, the Odesa delegation discussed the organizational details of the cultural program.
A significant focus was on enhancing professional cooperation. At the invitation of the Polish side, the Odesa delegation participated in the international exhibition BALEXPO 2025, where key topics included port infrastructure, logistics, and innovations.

«This was an opportunity to showcase the potential of our community and neighboring areas, as well as to reaffirm our commitment to joint development with European partners», — noted Olena Zakarchenko-Netuzhilova, Deputy Director - Head of the International Relations Department of the Department of International Cooperation, Culture, and Marketing.

During the meetings, the following topics were discussed:

  • expanding partnership ties;
  • sharing experiences in eurointegration;
  • joint project development for attracting funding from European funds;
  • intermunicipal cooperation and the creation of functional territories;
  • Ukrainian practices of civil defense in wartime conditions.

«Partnership with Odesa means trust, common initiatives, and a desire to move forward together», emphasized Gdańsk Deputy Mayor Mr. Piotr Gżelak.

Gdańsk is a port city on the Baltic Sea in Poland, rich in history, multicultural heritage, and strategic significance. Like Odesa, it combines maritime trade and architectural beauty with dramatic historical events and a spirit of renewal.
