In Odesa, law enforcement officials apprehended a criminal who promised to assist in avoiding mobilization into the Armed Forces of Ukraine for money, offering employment as an "unofficial agent" in the Security Service of Ukraine. Criminals often resort to speculation to profit from those wishing to evade military service. One such scheme was uncovered by operatives of the Odesa Department of Internal Security and investigators from the Main Directorate of the National Police in the Odesa region.
The fraud was attempted by a 44-year-old native of Dnipropetrovsk region, currently residing in Odesa. For $5,500, he promised to secure a job for a man in the Security Service of Ukraine as an "unofficial agent," and based on fictitious documents, arrange a deferral from military service.
According to the fraudster, he intended to involve friends who supposedly would assist in executing the plan. He demanded the money urgently, and threatened to inform the military enlistment office about the “client” if the deal was rejected.
Police arrested the criminal in a procedural manner right after receiving part of the money. Evidence was seized.
Currently, investigators of the Odesa police have informed the fraudster of his suspicion under Part 3 of Article 369-2 (Abuse of Influence) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. He faces up to eight years in prison for his actions.
The procedural leadership is carried out by the Odesa city prosecutor's office.
