A New Chapter in Rehabilitation: Opening of «Bionic Forum: Ukraine’s Rehabilitation & Reforms»

On September 18, 2025, the international platform «Bionic Forum: Ukraine’s Rehabilitation & Reforms» was inaugurated in Odesa.

The forum brought together representatives from the Ukrainian Parliament, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs, healthcare institutions, social protection organizations, and manufacturers of rehabilitation and prosthetic devices.

Experts from eleven regions of Ukraine and other countries participated in the event. Over two days, attendees will discuss state policies and international experiences in the rehabilitation of military and civilian individuals, innovative technologies such as exoskeletons, robotic prostheses, bionic implants, as well as psychological rehabilitation and social integration aspects.

“This forum marks the beginning of real change. Prosthetics is not just a medical issue; it’s about integrating people with disabilities into social life, contributing to Ukraine’s economic future. Odesa has the potential to become a rehabilitation hub due to its developed medical infrastructure and collaboration with businesses and NGOs,” said Mayor Gennady Trukhanov.

The Odesa city authorities are actively working on building a rehabilitation system for veterans. Modern rehabilitation units operate in four city hospitals, and outpatient rehabilitation is provided through Primary Healthcare Centers.

A powerful Southern Ukrainian Rehabilitation Center is being established based on one of the city hospitals, combining medical assistance, educational programs, adaptive sports, and social integration. Additionally, renovations and expansions are underway for the rehabilitation department at City Clinical Hospital No. 1.

Adaptive sports methods are actively involved in veteran rehabilitation. Recently, the Odessa team returned from the Venetian regatta, sailing under Ukrainian and Odesa flags.

The «Bionic Forum: Ukraine’s Rehabilitation & Reforms» will serve as a strategic platform for developing the national rehabilitation system, ensuring constructive dialogue among municipal, national, and international levels for implementing effective policies and solutions.
