Murder Suspect Arrested in Odessa

In Odessa, police have uncovered a murder case involving a man who fatally assaulted his acquaintance with a bottle, feet, and fists after suspecting him of stealing his wallet. The suspect has been formally charged and faces up to 15 years in prison.

This was reported by the press service of the National Police.

Recently, near a high-rise building on Heroes of Krut Street, a woman discovered a bloody body and immediately called the police. A forensic team and a mobile DNA lab were dispatched to the scene. Within half an hour, law enforcement identified the 37-year-old suspect, who had a history of theft convictions.

"Investigators found out that the night before, the suspect and his 43-year-old acquaintance had been drinking alcohol in a courtyard between the buildings. During their drunken revelry, the younger man couldn't find his wallet and began accusing the older man of theft. In the ensuing conflict, he beat him to death with a glass bottle, using his feet and fists.

The body of the deceased was sent for a forensic examination to determine the cause of death, and the assailant was located and detained near the murder site. The suspect was found with the wallet he had not realized was in his pocket, which he thought was stolen, as well as bloodied clothes and other items of evidentiary importance," the report stated.

Investigators have charged the detainee with intentional murder. This crime is punishable by up to 15 years of imprisonment. The court, at the request of the investigators, has chosen pre-trial detention as a preventive measure for the suspect.
