Completion of Pre-Trial Investigation: Case Sent to Court

Investigators have completed the pre-trial investigation and submitted charges against the offender to the court. For causing serious bodily harm, he faces up to eight years in prison.

This was reported by the police.

The incident occurred in September last year in the Primorsky district of Odesa. During the pre-trial investigation, police established that a 67-year-old resident of Mykolaiv region, having missed his train, decided to spend the night in a residential building where lodging is rented.

By mistakenly confusing the apartment number, the elderly man knocked on the door of a 31-year-old Odesa resident's home and attempted to open it. When the owner came out, a dispute arose between the men regarding why the passerby entered the residential area where he did not reside.

The verbal conflict escalated into a fight, during which the younger resident assaulted the elderly visitor. The victim lost consciousness, and the perpetrator dragged him to a fence, where he struck him several more times before leaving.

The injured man was reported to the police by a bus station security guard. Medical personnel hospitalized the victim with a traumatic brain injury, skull fracture, brain contusion, and multiple abrasions to the head. According to the findings of the forensic examination, these injuries are classified as serious and dangerous to life. The perpetrator who inflicted these serious injuries was located and apprehended by police operatives of department No. 2 of the Odesa District Police Department No. 1 the very next morning.

“The offender was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and, at our request, placed in custody, where he remains to this day. Having gathered sufficient evidence of the unlawful actions of the subject, we charged him under part 1 of article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This concerns the intentional infliction of serious bodily harm dangerous to life at the time of the act. The indictment has been sent to court. According to current legislation, the offender faces up to eight years of imprisonment,” said investigator Valeria Buliga from the territorial police unit. The investigation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office of Odesa.
