Odesa athletes earned five medals at the European Karate Championship held from February 6 to 8 in Limassol, Cyprus.
Approximately 1200 competitors from 40 European countries participated in the event.
Students from Odesa's sports schools and athletes from the All-Ukrainian Karate Federation showcased impressive results.
Maxim Vechnikov (Sports School No. 15) became the European champion, marking his third medal at the youth championship - he previously won gold in 2025 and silver in 2024 among cadets.
Hanna Maistreko (Sports School No. 15) secured a silver medal.
Silver medals were also claimed by Vladislav Rudenko (Sports School No. 16), Sergey Stankov (Legion Sports Club), and Ulyana Baranova (Okinawa Sports Club). This marks their second awards: Sergey previously won gold among cadets in 2024, while Ulyana and Vladislav earned bronze in 2025.
Following the European Championship, Maxim Vechnikov and Ulyana Baranova headed to Fujairah (UAE) to participate in the world karate league.
The athletes were trained by coaches: Volodymyr Zaretsky, Oleksiy Konovalov, and instructors: Volodymyr Holoveshko, Dmytro Negaturov, Denys Sustretov, Orkhan Yusifov, and Ruslan Khomutenko.
