Microsoft has announced the integration of the new GPT-5 model from OpenAI into its assistant Copilot, which is used in Microsoft 365, GitHub, Azure AI Foundry, and mobile applications. This update is now available for users.
Copilot now features a Smart Mode that automatically selects the optimal model based on the complexity of the request. This allows for a balance between response speed and depth of information processing.
In Microsoft 365, Copilot has improved contextual understanding, the ability to maintain extended conversations, and answer accuracy. GitHub Copilot with GPT-5 is available via chatbot, VS Code, and the mobile app for paid users, while organizations can access it through policy settings.
In Azure AI Foundry, the new model is available via API with automatic setting selection, support for multimodal scenarios, and extensive context. For standard Copilot users, GPT-5 is already available for free.
