The largest Ukrainian mobile operator, "Kyivstar", is initiating the testing of its new Direct to Cell technology for subscribers, focusing on SMS messaging. Interested individuals can register to participate.
Testing will occur from October to November 2025, with the full rollout scheduled for Q4 2025, allowing users to send and receive messages via satellite communication. In the future, "Kyivstar" aims to include mobile internet and voice services using VoLTE.
During the testing phase, Direct to Cell will be offered at no additional cost. Currently, the technology is only available on Android devices, as "Kyivstar" is awaiting approval from Apple.
It is important to note that Direct to Cell will function only in open areas.
As a reminder, Direct to Cell is a Starlink technology that connects your smartphone to satellites acting as mobile communication base stations in space. This enables connectivity even in hard-to-reach locations.
