Discord is rolling out new age verification measures for all users globally to ensure full access to the platform. From now on, all accounts will be automatically classified as teen accounts with updated communication settings, age restrictions, and content filters.
The age verification process will begin to appear gradually starting March 2026 for both new and existing users. Those wanting access to sensitive content, such as channels or servers with age restrictions, will need to verify their age using facial recognition technology or by submitting an identification document.
Discord notes that video processing will occur only on users' devices, and all identification documents will be promptly deleted after verification.
In most cases, users will need to verify their age only once, but sometimes multiple methods may be required to provide additional information for age determination. The company also emphasizes that a user’s age verification status will not be visible to others.
Additionally, Discord has announced the formation of its first "Teen Advisory Council." The council will consist of 10-12 teens who will help the company better understand the needs of its younger audience on the platform.
