The two girls were arrested after they set one vehicle ablaze and were planning to ignite another. They face imprisonment for their actions.
This was reported by the police.
During the night hours, without legal repercussions for violating the curfew, the girls ignited a «Kia» parked outside the home of a local woman. Firefighters extinguished the blaze and informed the police about the incident.
With the analytical support of the criminal analysis department of the Odesa regional police, investigators discovered that the arson was committed by two girls aged 17 and 18.
The underage girl, in search of «easy» money, was recruited to set fire to military and police vehicles for a financial reward. She was also allowed to ignite any car marked with a white cross. Agreeing to this, she involved her 18-year-old friend.
The girls identified a vehicle that met the requirements of their so-called curator and, waiting for the night, marked it with a cross, doused it with flammable liquid, and set it on fire. The entire process was filmed on a phone to confirm the completed «work».
Later, they planned to set another civilian vehicle, a «Renault», ablaze, parked near the owner's residence.
Police apprehended the girls just before they could commit the crime. They seized flammable materials, a lighter, duct tape, and other items prepared for the car fire, as well as mobile phones containing correspondence with the client and other items of evidentiary value.
Investigators detained the girls in accordance with procedural rules and, based on the gathered evidence, charged them with intentional damage to someone else's property and attempted intentional damage by arson, committed in conspiracy. Under the Criminal Code of Ukraine, they face up to 10 years in prison.
The court has placed the suspects under house arrest. Investigative actions are ongoing under the supervision of the Primorsky District Prosecutor's Office in Odesa.
