As October begins, the specialists of the «Service Center» municipal enterprise have started the winterization of city fountains to prepare them for the spring season.

The fountain winterization process is complex and requires significant effort. To ensure safe wintering, specialists blow out the water supply systems, dismantle nozzles and equipment. After that, inspections and repairs are conducted if necessary.

This year, the first fountain to be shut down was located at the Railway Square, followed by the winterization of the fountains: «Waterfall» on Kosivska Street and «Mermaid» in Victory Park.

Fountains in parks will cease operations by mid-October, while those in the city center will be winterized last. All fountains are expected to be winterized by early November.

In recent years, the «Service Center» has also implemented a practice of fully sealing some fountains, particularly those in the City Garden, Shevchenko Park, and the Cosmonauts Square. Due to the war, this year, 4 UNESCO zone fountains have been completely winterized.

The process of de-winterization will begin in the spring, with the first fountains in the city center typically being turned on by April 1, and the rest throughout April.

The «Service Center» manages 27 city fountains. In 2024, 17 fountains were de-winterized. Weather conditions and temperature are the main factors influencing their operation. 15 employees ensure their proper functioning.
Staff continuously maintain the fountains, cleaning, servicing filters, and addressing vandalism issues, which often affect the fountain on Krymsky Boulevard.
