The local government of Odesa is actively engaged in the modernization of electric transport, which has become one of the main tasks for improving the city’s infrastructure.
Currently, approximately 80 trams operate daily across 13 routes. The most popular route is No. 7, while route No. 20 operates with just 2 trams.
On September 30, 2024, another fully refurbished Tatra T3 tram hit the tracks.
“Despite the war, we continue to enhance public transport in Odesa. This tram was renovated using company funds and cost us 4 million UAH, whereas a new tram costs from 18 million UAH. I am grateful to the team for their effective work in these challenging times,” said Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
The refurbished tram has been completely modernized both externally and internally, and it features a new control system, making it 40% more economical to operate.
The mayor also mentioned plans to install mechanisms for lifting people in wheelchairs on older Tatra models.

The Tatra T3 tram underwent capital repairs at the Odesa Electric Transport Enterprise using its own funds. This is a unique example of major repairs.
During the refurbishment, the interior of the cabin and the driver’s area were updated, new seating was installed, and a new heating and air conditioning system was introduced, along with a new glass installation method. Plans are to refurbish another similar tram by the end of 2024 and two more in 2025.
Additionally, at the beginning of 2024, two units of the Tatra T-3-Od model were repaired, successfully operating on the “North – South” route. They underwent capital restoration with upgraded control systems funded by the budget.
In 2025, similar major repairs are planned for four more trams.
