A new exhibition titled "German Heritage in Ukraine" has opened at the UNESCO center in Regensburg.
This exhibition, brought from Odessa, features unique historical documents that depict the lives of German colonists in the Odessa region since the early 19th century and their contributions to the development of the area and the city itself.
The exhibition is divided into three main sections: historical, artistic, and contemporary. The historical section was prepared by renowned historian Oleksandr Surilov, while the artistic part showcases works by Odessa artist Tetiana Romanenko.
Additionally, the exhibition highlights the collaboration between the cities and Regensburg's support for Odessa during the war.
The exhibition has been organized with the support of the Department of Culture of Odessa and the Department of Cultural Heritage Protection of Regensburg.
At the opening, Odessa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and Regensburg Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer expressed their gratitude for the support. Attendees included historians, scholars, politicians, and residents of Odessa living in Germany.
Hennadiy Trukhanov thanked everyone for their assistance: "We have gone through a thousand days of struggle and heroism, and we are grateful to European countries, especially Regensburg, for their help."
"Odessa has become a home for many displaced people, just as it was when Germans, Jews, Greeks, and other nationalities enriched the culture of our city."
The mayor also emphasized the importance of the German contribution to the region's agricultural development and infrastructure, stating that these relationships remain strong and vital for both sides.
"Today we are here to celebrate our shared history and strengthen our relations. We believe in a better future and our ability to overcome all challenges together."
Our ties with Regensburg remain strong, as does our faith in victory and the independence of Ukraine.
