A delegation from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has arrived in Odesa, led by Humanitarian Coordinator Mr. Matthias Schmale.
Today, October 15, 2024, the delegation members visited the city’s Center for Social-Psychological Assistance, which supports internally displaced persons and those affected by conflict, currently hosting around 100 individuals.
The UN representatives familiarized themselves with the living conditions, engaging in discussions with displaced individuals and Center staff.
In addition to residential rooms, the Center is equipped with a psychologist's office, children's rooms for learning and recreation, large laundry facilities, a kitchen, a dining room, and an assembly hall.
The Center regularly organizes workshops and activities for children, while adults have opportunities to learn new professions and gain employment.
Center staff noted that charitable organizations and international missions provide extensive assistance to those temporarily residing there.
«We are concerned about assisting internally displaced persons. I see that this Center has created a comfortable living environment for those who have had to leave their homes. It is one of the best in Ukraine,» said Mr. Matthias Schmale.
Adviser to the Odesa Mayor on social and humanitarian issues Veronika Etnarovych mentioned that the possibility of establishing another such Center in Odesa is currently being explored.
