Update on Decommunization Maps in Ukraine

The public organization «Decolonization. Ukraine» has released updated maps indicating the number of streets that require renaming across Ukraine in the context of decommunization and decolonization. A total of 228 streets in the Odessa region have been identified for renaming.

Odessa region ranks fifth among Ukrainian regions for the number of streets that need to be renamed. The leading region is Zaporizhzhia, where 1001 streets require renaming.

«This list is not exhaustive, as there are streets named after local communist figures that were previously unknown», the organization noted, adding that the map will be updated as new information comes in.

It is important to mention that there are regions where, according to activists, the renaming process is already complete, particularly in Ivano-Frankivsk and Lviv regions.

The YouTube channel «Odessa Life» has launched a new video series titled «Streets of Odessa: Then and Now», which tells the stories of individuals whose names are associated with the streets of Odessa and the region.

Previously, the «Decolonization. Ukraine» project published a map of monuments and plaques dedicated to Pushkin that have not yet been removed. According to their estimates, the highest concentration is in Odessa. Additionally, there has been a proposal to rename Mark Twain Park in Odessa.
