In the first quarter of 2025, Ukrainian ports handled 23 million tons of cargo, which is 4.8 million tons less than in the same period last year.
This information is provided by the Administration of Seaports of Ukraine.
According to the data from the ASU, the highest cargo handling volumes are observed in the ports of Greater Odesa, which processed 20.7 million tons since the beginning of the year. Specifically, the Port of Pivdennyi handled 10.6 million tons, the Chornomorsk Port — 6.6 million tons, and the Odesa Port — 3.5 million tons.
The ports of the Danube region — Izmail, Reni, and Ust-Dunaisk — collectively handled over 2.3 million tons of cargo.
The decline in cargo handling is attributed to the reduction of agricultural lands and a downturn in production in export-oriented sectors, particularly metallurgy, which prior to the war exported up to 80% of its products, as explained by the ASU.
Globally, cargo handling is also decreasing due to market instability and disruptions in logistics.
