Increase in Gambling Addiction in Ukraine: Recent Statistics

In Ukraine, the number of individuals suffering from gambling addiction has tripled over the past year. The Gamblers Registry currently lists 12,807 Ukrainians.

This information is reported by 'Opendatabot'.

During the last year, the Registry added 9,389 new entries, while 1,496 individuals were removed due to the expiration of their restriction period.

According to 'Opendatabot', a total of 14,979 people have been registered since the inception of the Registry, with 2,172 already removed.

It is noted that 99% of all entries in the Registry are voluntary requests. Individuals submit applications for self-restriction to block their access to gambling establishments for a certain period. The restriction lasts from six months to three years.

Only 1% consists of individuals who have restricted access by the decision of the CRAIL. Throughout the existence of the registry, there have been 169 such decisions, most of which were made last year.

Last year, an average of 780 individuals were added to the registry each month, which is 2.8 times more than in 2023, when approximately 280 new entries were made per month. The highest number of self-restriction requests was received in April – 1,041, while the lowest was in June – 524.

In the first two months of 2025, 1,719 individuals have already been added to the Registry, averaging 860 per month – a 10% increase compared to 2024.

'Opendatabot' emphasized that there is currently no clear statistics in Ukraine regarding the actual number of citizens with gambling addiction, and the figures from the registry do not reflect the complete picture, particularly for those playing online casinos.
