New Park Initiative in Odesa: Azerbaijan's Contribution

The Mayor of Odesa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, met with Ayyaz Aliyev, a member of the board from the Azerbaijani diaspora organization 'Birlik', to discuss an exciting new project.

During their meeting, they talked about the implementation of the Azerbaijani park project near the 4th station of the Great Fountain. This green area has been officially named the 'Azerbaijani Park' since 2013, but the project has faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the full-scale war.

Currently, the Azerbaijani diaspora in Odesa, which numbers over 30,000 people, has presented a new concept for the park. This includes not only recreational space but also a memorial honoring Azerbaijanis who lost their lives in the Russo-Ukrainian war. All funding for the project will come from the diaspora itself.

“We aim to collaborate with our partners, as Odesa has a great tradition of parks created by friends of our city. This is how the Istanbul Park, Greek Park, and now the Azerbaijani Park came to be,” said Hennadiy Trukhanov.

The park will be located next to the Odesa racetrack and will cover an area of over 2 hectares.
