Maintenance and Care of Ponds in Victory Dendropark

Workers from the Municipal Enterprise «Service Center» clean nearly two kilometers of the shoreline around the artificial ponds in Victory Dendropark in Odessa daily.

To maintain order in this area, various measures are taken, including cleaning the water bodies from debris, tidying up the paths, caring for the vegetation, and servicing the facilities.

The history of the ponds in the dendropark dates back to 1960. In the 1970s, a concrete pond was created, which evolved into a system of four lakes. The depth of these bodies of water ranges from 0.8 to 1.7 meters.

Currently, the ponds form part of a hydraulic complex with a waterfall that not only enhances the area but also prevents water stagnation. To improve water quality, specialists use chlorella, which reduces algal blooms and enriches the water with oxygen.

The fountain located in the ponds operates automatically from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM and from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with lighting enhancing its beauty from 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The «Fairy Pond Light Show» project was implemented in 2017.

Since 2020, a grotto has also been added to the park, becoming a popular photo zone for visitors. The idea was proposed by the Mayor of Odessa, Hennadiy Trukhanov, transforming technical facilities into a recreational area.

In spring and summer, swans can be seen here, while in winter they move to the Odessa Zoo.

Wild ducks inhabit the area of the ponds, and turtles hibernate. The fish in the ponds survive under the ice, while employees of the «Service Center» make holes in the ice to ensure oxygen access.

Thus, the hydraulic structure of the ponds is an essential part of Victory Dendropark, offering picturesque views and diverse zones for recreation.
