The revitalization of the fountain «Grotto with Pool» in Istanbul Park, Odessa, has commenced. This artificial grotto was established in the late 19th century on the slopes of Primorsky Boulevard. Initially, it served as a drainage system for water flowing from the nearby fountain monument on Primorsky Boulevard. However, with the development of the water supply system, this function became unnecessary, and the grotto evolved into a park feature.
During the 2017 renovation, this landmark was transformed into a fountain and subsequently handed over to the Municipal Enterprise «Service Center» for maintenance.
Over the seven years following the renovation, the grotto has been affected by environmental factors. Rain and snow runoff from the slopes have compromised the waterproofing layer of the fountain's basin.
Key tasks planned during the capital repair include clearing the area of debris, implementing measures to divert rainwater from the fountain's perimeter, performing waterproofing work, and retiling the fountain basin.
The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2025.
