In the Odesa region, law enforcement officials apprehended the deputy head of a hospital commission for accepting a bribe of $6,000 for facilitating a military discharge. Investigators have already notified him of the charges, and he now faces imprisonment.
According to the press service of the Odesa regional police, the deputy head of the medical commission at a hospital in the Podilsk district conspired with unidentified personnel from the Southern Regional Military Medical Clinical Center to assist a soldier in obtaining an honorable discharge for health reasons. He demanded $6,000, promising to provide medical documents for the soldier's discharge.
"During the operation to stop the criminal activities of the suspect, police documented the receipt of the bribe in two installments and the transfer of the promised medical documents, after which he was detained."
Based on the collected evidence, investigators charged the suspect under part 3 of article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for receiving unlawful benefits by a public official for actions in favor of a third party, committed with prior conspiracy by a group of persons. This crime is punishable by up to 10 years of imprisonment and a ban from holding certain positions for up to three years.
The court has chosen a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of bail set at 908,400 hryvnias. Other participants involved in the scheme are being identified", - the statement reads.
