A man attempted to bribe an engineer at a defense enterprise, offering an illegal benefit. Investigators have formally charged him.
Police in the Odessa region, together with the Security Service of Ukraine’s counterintelligence, under the supervision of the Odessa Specialized Prosecutor's Office, detained an individual trying to bribe a defense company employee.
The investigation found that a 37-year-old resident of Odessa offered the engineer 40,000 UAH for documents belonging to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He sought copies of research and design work related to military aviation products.
The engineer reported the bribery attempt to his superiors, which resulted in a police investigation. Officers apprehended the man during a scheduled meeting with the engineer when he handed over part of the bribe amounting to 20,000 UAH.
During the investigation, authorities seized cash, mobile phones, documentation, and other evidence of criminal activity.
Based on the gathered evidence, the suspect was charged under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — offering an illegal benefit to a public official in connection with the use of their official position, committed by a group of individuals in collusion.
The sanctions for this article entail a prison sentence of up to eight years, with or without asset confiscation.
The court has chosen to impose custody as a preventive measure for the suspect.
Law enforcement continues to investigate and establish the complete circle of individuals involved in the crime.
