In Odessa, law enforcement agencies together with the Security Service of Ukraine uncovered a man who promised a foreigner a permanent residency permit for $6,000. The suspect attempted to influence officials from the State Migration Service to extend the foreigner's stay in the country.
The 47-year-old man, originally from one of the Caucasian countries, offered his services for money, claiming to have connections in the migration service and could 'solve the issue' quickly.
Specifically, he promised one foreigner to extend his stay in Ukraine for $1,000 and to obtain a permanent residency permit for $5,000. At the same time, the fraudster assured that without his assistance, this would be impossible.
Law enforcement documented the criminal activity of the suspect right after he received $6,000 for his 'services'.
The investigation has charged the man under Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for a penalty of up to five years in prison. Currently, the matter of choosing a preventive measure is being resolved, while the pre-trial investigation continues under the supervision of the prosecutor's office.
