In Odesa, police and the Security Service of Ukraine have arrested a military officer who attempted to solicit four thousand dollars for facilitating entry into a community volunteer formation. The suspect promised to influence the decisions of relevant authorities to help avoid military conscription.
He claimed that with the documentation of a volunteer, the individual would be recognized as a serviceman, but warned that it would be difficult without the money. After the funds were transferred, law enforcement apprehended him at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing, and the detained individual faces up to eight years of imprisonment with asset confiscation. The court has already imposed a preventive measure of detention with the possibility of bail set at 605,600 hryvnias.
