Bribery Case in Odesa Sent to Court

In Odesa, a court case has been initiated against a municipal official accused of bribery. The suspect received 10 thousand hryvnias as an illegal benefit from the head of a homeowners' association for improving the yard area through a municipal enterprise. The investigation is complete, and the indictment has been sent to court.
Law enforcement, including detectives from the police department and SBU agents, uncovered and documented the illegal actions of the official.
It was revealed that a leader of the homeowners' association approached the acting deputy mayor for assistance in yard improvement. In return, the official suggested handling the work through a controlled municipal enterprise without a contract but for a monetary reward.
To expedite the work of the municipal employees, the official demanded a “thank you” in the amount of 10 thousand hryvnias.
The official was arrested immediately after receiving the bribe, and the money was seized as evidence and placed under court restriction.
During the pre-trial investigation, the official was suspended from office, and the court assigned a preventive measure of detention with the right to post bail of 242,240 UAH, which he utilized.
“Having gathered sufficient evidence, we charged the individual with receiving an illegal benefit in connection with his official duties, punishable by up to 10 years in prison and property confiscation. The indictment has been sent to court, and the prosecution will be led by the Khadzhybei District Prosecutor's Office,” stated Senior Investigator Yulia Bondarenko.
