Military Clinic Chief Arrested for Bribery in Odesa Region

In the Odesa region, law enforcement officials have apprehended the head of a department at a military medical facility for corrupt practices. The medic was demanding $2000 from a serviceman, promising to assist in obtaining documentation certifying limited fitness for service. He faces up to ten years in prison with asset confiscation.
The investigation was conducted by the National Police's investigative department in Odesa region in collaboration with military counterintelligence.
Authorities discovered that the chief of the emergency surgery department was soliciting money for aiding in the preparation of medical documentation necessary for a military medical commission's conclusion on limited fitness for service. This would enable the serviceman to continue serving in rear units — specifically in logistics or security.
Initially, the medic demanded $10,000 but later reduced the sum to $2000. Police arrested him immediately after he received the agreed amount. The funds were seized as evidence.
After gathering sufficient evidence, police informed the suspect of the charges under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which deals with demanding and receiving improper benefits by a public official. The suspect faces a potential sentence of up to ten years in prison.
The court has placed him under detention with the possibility of a bail of 605,600 hryvnias.
The investigation is ongoing, supervised by the Odesa specialized prosecutor's office in the defense sector.
