Preparations for the New School Year in Odesa

As the new school year approaches, intensive preparations are underway in Odesa's educational institutions.

The main focus is on the safety of children: currently, 90 out of 120 schools already have their own shelters. Modernization efforts are ongoing.

A striking example is School No. 62, where engineers successfully relocated a complex communication system, deepened the basement floor, and reinforced the foundation. Now, over 500 students can attend their beloved school simultaneously.

The shelter will also be open to local residents.

At School No. 122, the existing shelter is being expanded, the gym is being renovated, and STEM laboratories are being created—steps that demonstrate not only protection but also educational development and early specialization.

Both schools had previously suffered from shelling. Today, educators and builders are fully restoring their functionality.

«We are not just repairing walls; we are creating a safe, comfortable, and inspiring environment where children want to grow and thrive,» commented Odesa's Deputy Mayor Pavlo Vuhelman.

In total, nearly 325 million UAH has been allocated for repairs in the city's education sector this year. Work is also being done at Lyceum No. 125 and Mykhailivskyi, as well as Gymnasiums No. 12 and No. 61.

Thanks to international partners, Kindergarten No. 14 is being restored, while Kindergarten No. 29 is already welcoming children.

«Thank you to all involved—educators, builders, deputies, parents, and partners. Childhood is unique, and caring for it is the true meaning for Odesa,» said the Director of the Department of Education and Science, Olena Buiневич.
