Last week, Odessa celebrated a Breast Cancer Prevention and Early Detection Day, organized with the support of the Department of Health of the Odessa City Council and the Odessa Health Center ahead of the national Breast Cancer Awareness Day.
Women had the opportunity to undergo free clinical breast examinations and receive consultations from family doctors, therapists, surgeons, or oncologists. Medical professionals also provided free mammography and ultrasound examinations for those who self-referred without electronic referrals.
As a result of the event, a total of 1822 women participated in preventive mammological screenings. There were 669 referrals for mammography and 388 referrals for ultrasound examinations. Additionally, 170 women were referred for further consultation with a mammologist.
On the day of the event, 97 women underwent free mammographic screenings without referrals, which allowed for the timely detection of 8 cases suspected of breast cancer, with all patients being referred for further consultation and examination at specialized medical facilities.
Remember! Women over 40 should undergo screening mammography annually, even in the absence of symptoms. Timely diagnosis can identify precancerous conditions and malignant tumors at early stages that are treatable.
Medical institutions in Odessa have been equipped with modern mammography machines funded by the city budget, and a unique Family Health Center has been established in the consultative-diagnostic center No. 6 for comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases.
