Essential Insights on Stroke Treatment in Ukraine

In Ukraine, stroke treatment is provided at no cost through the state medical guarantee program.

Patients brought in by emergency medical teams or those who seek help in critical condition receive free inpatient treatment.

In Odessa, three hospitals—Clinics No. 1, No. 10, and No. 11—offer assistance under agreements with the National Health Service.

A crucial step in treatment involves an evaluation by a neurologist or neurosurgeon and neuroimaging conducted within an hour of arrival.

These hospitals are equipped with advanced CT scanners and angiography machines.

The free medical package includes health monitoring, anesthetic support, thrombolytic therapy for ischemic stroke, and laboratory and instrumental tests.

Rehabilitation should begin as early as possible upon hospitalization. Within the first 72 hours, consultations with a speech therapist and psychologist are provided.

Inpatient rehabilitation occurs at Hospitals No. 1, No. 10, and No. 8, while outpatient rehabilitation is offered at these hospitals as well.

Timely medical intervention is critical for successful stroke management. Recognizing symptoms is key.
Signs can be remembered using the acronym BRAIN:
- Speech. Difficulty speaking;
- Face. Facial asymmetry;
- Balance. Loss of balance, severe headache;
- Eyes. Vision problems;
- Limbs. Weakness on one side.

To check for a stroke, ask the person to smile, say a simple sentence, or lift their arms. Difficulty with any of these tasks may indicate a stroke.
If stroke is suspected, immediately call emergency services at 103!
