Odesa's Collaboration with South Korean Corporation on Ecology

With the support of the State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine, an important meeting took place in Kyiv between Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and his deputy Hanna Pozdnyakova with representatives of the South Korean company POSCO E&C, a global leader in infrastructure construction.

POSCO E&C has already built over 30 waste incineration plants worldwide. Hanna Pozdnyakova emphasized that the most valuable experience was the plant in Warsaw, which she visited during a business trip in March. This facility complies with European legislation and environmental standards, which Ukraine aims to integrate into its national laws. The comprehensive waste management approach implemented in Warsaw is a concept that Odesa is studying.

This meeting marked the first dialogue regarding the potential construction of a waste incineration plant in Odesa.

"We have strong ties with Ukraine and have already completed projects in metallurgy and the agro-industrial sector, particularly in Mykolaiv region, and we look forward to further active collaboration," noted the vice president of the South Korean corporation, Mr. Kim Yong Hyun.

The infrastructure project has already been approved by the relevant ministry and included in the city's heating scheme. Following the negotiations, the parties agreed to work on the organizational and technical issues necessary for the project’s realization.

"We have government support and all the prerequisites for implementing this vital project for Odesa. I hope we can start it as soon as possible. Firstly, it is an environmental initiative, and secondly, it involves the construction of thermal and electrical energy generation, which is extremely necessary for our city," emphasized Odesa's Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov.
