In celebration of its 160th anniversary, Odessa National University named after I.I. Mechnikov is hosting a blood donation campaign titled «Become a Donor! Save a Life!» with the participation of the university administration, staff union, and students.

This event is part of the university project «HEALTH, MOVEMENT, EDUCATION — the university lives and acts»!

«Our goal is to gather 160 donors in honor of our university's anniversary, uniting the university community to help save lives of military personnel and others in need», said the initiative's organizer, Associate Professor Vadim Penov from the Department of Physiology.

The blood collection will take place on the university grounds with the assistance of medical staff from the Odessa Regional Blood Transfusion Station.

The campaign started at the university's branch on Shampanskoy Lane and will continue next week in the library and other buildings.

Students, faculty, and university staff eagerly participated in the blood donation. Over 70 individuals have donated blood in the first two days. Each participant received a motivational gift from the «Donor Odessa» project — a sticker featuring Sonya the cat, the project’s mascot promoting donation in Odessa.

Additionally, informative discussions on blood donation were held with students from the Vocational College and members of the Scientific Council of the Biological Faculty.

Promotional activities for blood donation at Mechnikov University are conducted as part of the city charity project «Weeks of Good Deeds».

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the «Donor Odessa» project has been instrumental in attracting blood donors for medical facilities in the city. Throughout this period, over 12,000 blood donations have been conducted through this project.
