The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, has been honored with the 'Person of the Year - 2024' award in the 'Mayor' category. The award ceremony took place in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine.

Trukhanov expressed his gratitude for this recognition, emphasizing its importance:

«I am thankful to every Odessa resident and every Ukrainian who is working diligently for the benefit of our community. This award is not just mine; it represents all of us, our resilience and strength. Odessa is the only city in the world that affectionately evokes the word «Mom». Today, Odessa-Mom cares for everyone: for those who have found a second home here and for those who need support. Odessa is now among the top three cities in terms of assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and is developing a robust rehabilitation base. We are preparing the city for the wellness season and have created a Barrier-Free Council in collaboration with veterans.»

Gennady Trukhanov also expressed gratitude to the military and invited them to Odessa for recuperation. He shared his most painful thoughts:

«There were words spoken here about how hard it is to bury comrades. I agree with that. But now I know that there is nothing more heartbreaking than burying children whom we pull from the rubble. I am confident that victory will certainly be ours, and every murderer, these inhuman beings, will face justice – both earthly, from our Heroes, and divine.»

The national program 'Person of the Year' is an award that recognizes professional and socially significant achievements of citizens. It was established in 1996. The 'Mayor' category acknowledges community leaders who have made substantial contributions to the development of cities, improvement of infrastructure, and enhancement of the quality of life for residents.
