As a result of the Russian attack on Odesa on the night of June 28, teacher Kateryna Borsynska from the local "Mykhailivskyi" lyceum and her husband Valentyn lost their lives.
This was reported by the city mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov and colleagues of the educator.
"Last night, we lost our dear colleague, a compassionate mentor for children, advisor for parents, and an exceptional person with a big heart, Kateryna Valentynivna Borsynska," they shared from the Odesa lyceum.
This is an unimaginable loss for all who knew Kateryna personally: a responsible, honest, and kind individual; a creative and professional educator.
Journalist Zoya Kazanzhi noted that shortly after the full-scale invasion began, Kateryna and Valentyn welcomed a granddaughter, whom they were only able to cherish for three years.
"Together with her was her husband Valentyn. A couple whose love and kindness should have continued to warm their family for years to come. They moved from Kryvyi Rih to Odesa. We are sorry we couldn’t protect them," wrote the director of the Odesa Regional Education and Science Department, Oleksandr Lonchak.
It is important to remember that on Saturday night, Russia struck a high-rise building in Odesa with a drone, causing fires on the 7th, 8th, and 9th floors.
Rescuers retrieved the bodies of the couple from the rubble. The attack also injured 17 others, including three boys aged 3, 7, and 14 years old, with three victims in critical condition.
