Mykhailo Korsun, a soldier of the 808th Dnister Support Brigade, has been awarded the 'Golden Star' medal – the highest distinction for heroic deeds. The award was presented to him by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, acknowledging the defender's exceptional contributions.
According to Presidential Decree No. 652/2025, Mykhailo has been granted the title of Hero of Ukraine for his bravery and dedication in defending the country's sovereignty.
«People like Mykhailo have stood up to protect Ukraine and ensure its independence. Our country has been resisting aggression for four years, and I am proud of every hero», – remarked the President.
Mykhailo hails from Dnipro. He began his service in the ATO back in 2014 as a volunteer and previously worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Currently, he serves as a sapper driver in the 808th Brigade, executing combat missions in the Kherson region since August 2023.
«When you have a son who also serves, you perceive the situation differently. You feel responsible for your comrades as if they are your own children», – Mykhailo shared in an interview.
«The tragedy in our neighborhood, where many children died, was a turning point for me. It solidified my decision to fight», – he recounted his motivation.
In March 2025, while on a mission to evacuate the wounded, his vehicle was attacked. Despite his injuries, he managed to save the lives of his comrades.
Mykhailo does not consider himself a hero, but simply fulfills his duty: «Everyone must do what is required. I was just doing my job».
He also urged new recruits to take responsibility: «This is our shared war. Only together can we overcome this challenge».
