In Odesa, law enforcement arrested a man who was illegally selling vehicles intended for humanitarian aid. The Kyiv resident sold three cars that had been brought into Ukraine for military and charity purposes. He has been charged and faces up to seven years in prison along with asset confiscation.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police.
The 43-year-old man from the capital organized the importation of vehicles into Ukraine under the pretext of using them for military units and charitable organizations. He later sold these humanitarian vehicles through online marketplaces.
During a sting operation, law enforcement apprehended the suspect in Odesa while he was finalizing a deal with a client, selling an Audi and two Mitsubishis for $16,100. Investigators seized illegally obtained cash, the sold vehicles, and other items relevant to the case.
"The police detained the offender under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and charged him with selling humanitarian aid products for profit during martial law. This crime is classified under part 3 of Article 201-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and carries a penalty of up to seven years of imprisonment, along with a ban on holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities for up to three years and asset confiscation," the statement said.
The court has chosen a preventive measure of detention for the suspect with the possibility of bail set at 605,000 UAH. The investigation is ongoing to identify others who may be involved in this crime.
