Alina Komashchuk Wins Silver at European Fencing Championship

Alina Komashchuk, the Olympic champion from Odessa, has won her first individual medal at the European Fencing Championship, securing silver in Genoa.

The news was announced by the Ukrainian Fencing Federation.

On June 15, Olympic champion Alina Komashchuk earned a silver medal at the European Fencing Championship held in Genoa, Italy.

In the finals among sabre fencers, Komashchuk lost to the reigning European champion from France, Sara Nouchi, with a score of 6:15.

On her way to the final match, the Ukrainian displayed outstanding form: she confidently defeated Italian fencer Mariella Viale, a medallist at junior world and European championships, and in the semifinals overcame strong Polish sabre fencer Sylvia Matuszak.

This silver medal is historic for Komashchuk, as she had previously stepped onto the podium at European championships as part of a team but had never done so in an individual competition.
