On Saturday, Meta Platforms announced the latest iteration of its language model Llama, named Llama 4 Scout and Llama 4 Maverick.
This news was reported by Reuters.
According to Meta, Llama is a multimodal artificial intelligence system.
Multimodal systems are capable of handling and integrating various data types, including text, video, images, and audio, with the ability to convert content between these formats.
Meta added that Llama 4 Maverick and Llama 4 Scout will feature open-source software.
The company also previewed Llama 4 Behemoth, which it described as “one of the smartest LLMs globally and our most powerful, serving as a mentor for our new models.”
Major tech companies are actively investing in AI infrastructure following the success of OpenAI's ChatGPT, which transformed the tech landscape and spurred investments in machine learning.
On Friday, The Information reported that Meta postponed the launch of its latest LLM because Llama 4 did not meet the company's expectations during technical testing, particularly in reasoning and math tasks.
Concerns were also raised that Llama 4 was less capable than OpenAI's models in conducting human-like voice conversations, as noted in the report.
