OpenAI has unveiled a simplified version of the deep research feature within ChatGPT. This version is free for all users, though it comes with usage limits.

For paid subscribers, the simplified version will be activated automatically once the usage limit of full Deep research is reached. "Responses will be shorter but will maintain the same depth and quality you are accustomed to," states OpenAI.

The tool is based on the o4-mini model, a streamlined variation of the larger o4 model, which reduces processing costs. Consequently, this enables OpenAI to enhance usage limits.
