The Turkish company Baykar has introduced a new version of its acclaimed drone, the Bayraktar TB2, now named the Bayraktar TB2T-AI. According to ArmyInform, the upgraded drone has successfully completed initial operational tests and set several records.
This modernization features a new turboprop engine and advanced artificial intelligence systems, significantly enhancing the UAV's flight characteristics, increasing autonomy, and expanding combat capabilities. The drone is equipped with three advanced computers powered by AI, enabling it to autonomously analyze, detect, and identify targets.
The Bayraktar TB2T-AI can perform autonomous takeoffs and landings, visually recognize runways, determine optimal flight paths, and conduct dynamic route planning. With its state-of-the-art AI systems, it can navigate even in challenging electronic warfare environments. In emergency situations, the drone's intelligent system can automatically return to its base, greatly improving its survivability.
Reports indicate that this drone can ascend to altitudes exceeding 9,000 meters in under 30 minutes, and during the latest tests, it set a record by reaching 9,250 meters. Despite an increased takeoff weight and payload, it has extended its flight range to 27 hours. Other improvements include:
- payload increased by 50-100% from the previous 100 kilograms;
- maximum speed increased from 220 to 300 km/h;
- satellite communication system extending control range from 150 km to over 1000 km;
In terms of armament, the Bayraktar TB2T-AI can carry MAM-C bombs with laser guidance and MAM-L weighing 22 kg with a range of 15 km. The latest addition to its arsenal is the miniature cruise missile "KemanKesh," capable of neutralizing threats from a distance of 200 km.
To date, Baykar has produced around 800 drones of this type, with exports to 36 countries. The manufacturing capabilities allow for the production of one drone per day.
With its powerful new engine, high speed, and intelligent autonomous flight capabilities, the Bayraktar TB2T-AI is poised to become one of the leading drones in its class.
