The Future of Education: AI's Role in Learning

Luis von Ahn, the founder of the well-known language learning platform Duolingo, believes that artificial intelligence has the potential to transform how people learn. He predicts that in the future, AI will be scaled for use in educational institutions, while teachers will adopt a more supportive role.

Duolingo is actively incorporating artificial intelligence into its offerings. Recently, the company announced a shift towards automated creation of educational materials using AI. Luis von Ahn notes that the platform has 116 million monthly users, allowing for thousands of A/B tests to enhance the learning experience.

He believes that schools will remain important centers for children, but the primary learning will occur through AI. Von Ahn emphasizes that AI can provide a more accurate assessment of a student's skills and tailor tasks better than a teacher managing a classroom of thirty students.

Some educational institutions are already implementing artificial intelligence in their teaching methods. For example, the private Alpha School network in the USA has students learning with AI for two hours a day. Teachers, referred to as guides, do not focus on teaching or grading but on providing emotional support. The school has four branches and plans to open eight more, with tuition ranging from $40,000 to $65,000 per year.

According to Luis von Ahn, changes in education will not happen overnight: "Like the government, education changes slowly."
