OpenAI has confirmed plans to release GPT-5 this summer. The new model will integrate key advancements from previous iterations, including the multimodal capabilities of GPT-4 and the logical reasoning abilities of the 'o' series. The company aims to create a powerful model that eliminates the need for switching between different versions, as reported by BleepingComputer.
"We want to not only develop a new flagship model but also unify our series into one," said Romain Yue, head of developer relations at OpenAI.
He added that GPT-5 will combine a "breakthrough in reasoning" with a "breakthrough in multimodality."
On Reddit, company vice president Jerry Tworek mentioned that GPT-5 is intended to enhance all existing model capabilities, making them more user-friendly and efficient without the need for switching.
While the exact launch date remains undisclosed, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previously hinted that the release is planned for summer 2025.
