Google is preparing to launch two new models of smart glasses equipped with artificial intelligence technology, expected to debut in 2026. This news comes from the company's official blog.
The first model will function as a "screenless assistant" and will be equipped with microphones, speakers, and cameras for interaction with Google Gemini. These glasses will allow users to take photos, ask questions about their surroundings, and receive helpful real-time suggestions.
The second model will retain the same AI capabilities but will add a display within the lens. On this display, users will be able to view step-by-step navigation, subtitles for live translation, or other important information right in front of their eyes. In both instances, the glasses will operate in tandem with a smartphone, which will handle the main data processing. The innovations will be built on Android XR – a new platform from Google for augmented reality devices and new gadgets.
Google is collaborating with Samsung on the hardware, while the design is being developed by Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, known for creating stylish and lightweight eyewear. The company emphasizes that the new models will be comfortable for everyday use.
These products from Google are expected to compete with Meta Ray-Ban's lineup, which already includes AI-supported models with built-in displays. Additionally, rumors suggest that Apple is also preparing its own AI-capable glasses, which may debut in 2026.
