Check Energy Independence of Internet in Ukraine

Ukrainians can now verify the presence of an energy-independent xPON network using the "Diia" application.

According to the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, this new map will provide a real technical overview and assess internet stability, enabling better planning for work and study during power outages.

On the Diia map, users can quickly find out:

  • which xPON providers serve a specific building or street;
  • the existence of xPON technology that provides internet without electricity;
  • the operational time of the network during outages (e.g., 4, 8, or 72 hours).

"Users will have the ability to leave feedback about provider services. This will foster healthy competition: companies will be motivated to enhance their services, while customers will know if promises match reality," the statement reads.

The ministry also noted that the map will show the coverage of energy-independent internet across Ukraine. "We will be able to identify "white spots" and collaborate with internet providers to eliminate them. This is especially crucial for frontline communities, where stable communication is a matter of security," they explained.

The Ministry of Digital Transformation revealed that in the fall of 2025, during a new wave of power outages, the demand for xPON in various regions increased by 45% to 77%. Currently, 52% of subscribers are using this technology — only 30% in 2021. The leaders in coverage (over 70%): Vinnytsia, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Cherkasy, and Volyn regions.

It is important to note that xPON (Passive Optical Network) is a technology that allows users to stay online without power for up to 72 hours. The optical fiber connects directly to the apartment, and there is no equipment along the way that needs electricity. The main requirement: to ensure internet functionality, you only need to power your router and ONU terminal.
